Fun stretch Hiking pants

by Jessie

I just wanted to share my finished product with you! I found the pattern challenging, but nothing I couldn't manage, especially with Birgit's help and quick responses.

This was an amazing project for me, and I'm so excited to finally have pants that fit! I plan on making a second pair with alternating colors.

The pocket facing tip

Why do you need the facing on the lining?

I strongly suggest you sew the facing strip onto your mesh, because mesh gets easily caught into the zipper during use. You can change your lining to a Taffeta lining, thin cotton or Supplex Nylon, then you do NOT need the facing piece. If you intend to put sharp edged items in your pockets, go with a thin Nylon Supplex fabric.

Step 14:

After placing the lining piece behind the zipper, the top and front edge of the lining piece is folded under. Mesh or Taffeta lining is not easily serged. This would need to be done before placing the piece. Again, when the pocket is in use, the serger loops can get pulled when you pull-on or take-off your pants. So, you see, turning the pocket lining edge under, not only gives the inside a much cleaner look, it also has a function. Below is a photo of the inside look of the finished thigh zip pocket.

Reinforcements

My only notes would be that I should've made them longer - I think the printer paper bunched up with I pinned it to my fabric, which accounted for shorter pants overall. And I wish the reinforcements areas had just a little more seam allowance on the edges. There were some parts I struggled to "catch" on the side/center seams.
