Water repellent Cotton pants

by Sridhar

For my hiking pants design, I used a medium weight cotton (about 200 gsm) with a water repellent treatment from StoneMountain and Daughter (stonemountainfabric.com). The only problem with this fabric is that it is a cat fur magnet.

These pants are very comfortable, and perfectly sized. Birgits's tip to do a fitting step of basting the main pieces really gave a lot of confidence that the fit was good. Then I could sew the final assembly without worrying about ripping out long, tight seams (a real pain - ask me how I know!) I have sewn pants once before and didn't like the result - I'm starting another pair from denim.

All the instructions were straightforward. I took my time with the thigh zipper pocket because I couldn't envision the structure before starting.

NOTE TO BIRGIT - maybe include a cut away sketch of that pocket- I puzzled over the thigh zip pocket sections 13-15 for quite a while, but all's well that ends well!)

I messed up the waistband and sewed it with center seam poking me in the back - are minder to pay attention every time I wear the pants :) May fix it....or not!
